Alive & Kicking

So many of the bands we grew up with are still kickin it on stage. Debbie Harry, a first love of many in my age group is out there touring with Cindy Lauper, Erasure and others with the True Colors tour. She's also releasing some new material in the fall. I didn't go to True Colors and I'm regretting it! Erasure is touring and will be performing here at McCarren Pool in Brooklyn. I may want to go to this one and hopefully they'll do all the cool classics. I'm not so big on their newer releases. I only bought the single Breathe from their last album. I'm going to go see Morrissey next Saturday. I just saw a TV ad on this which probably means that he hasn't sold out! Should have stuck to Radio City or Beacon Theatre, dear Moz.

And now, The Cure have announced their U.S. tour dates. It's been a while since I've seen them live, over ten years ago, so I think it's time to see them again. They're going for Madison Square Garden (oh well). They usually have an extensive set-list so It'll be nice to hear the classics. And they're pretty good live. Check out their website for dates.

V, strangely enough, The Cure is coming over to Singapore for the first time.

However, the Cure along with several other bands of that era has always eluded me for some reason. I am only familiar with two singles. I won't be going.

Anyway, enjoy yourself! Have fun!

On another related note, I saw Erasure once during the 1997 Cowboy tour. No props, just the two boys on a stage in the celebrated discotheque, Zouk, over here.

Sometimes the music sounds much better when you don't have the cheesy theatrics distracting from it. Must have been a nice show!

BTW: I picked up Alphaville's "Salvation" last week. The one with "Flame" in it. Good album!!

You are right about the stage props and all. It can distract.

'Flame' is such a touching single, in my opinion, one of Alphaville's best singles ever. This, together with 'Wishful Thinking', were the two singles released from this album. I can't remember if 'Soul Messiah', another single is from 'Salvation'. I suspect so.

I saw Alphaville twice in concert and I thought they were great, Marian Gold that is...

I am impressed with 'Salvation' too.

Props are OK if done tastefully as DM used to do.

I'm really loving "Salvation" a lot.

Lucky you got to see Alpahville live twice!

I love Cindy! Lot's of good memories come back when someone talks about music like that. It's funny how just a song can really bring back a memory. Isn't it?
Great post!

Thanks for the heads up V. I love live Cure! Will be seeing the Moz as well next week, a first for me, since he canceled the last two times i tried seeing him in Pittsburgh.

Yes, Angela, you are right. Song can bring back a flood of emotions from when you first heard it. It's always a good feeling or sometimes sad.

Steve, ah that Moz. He's always doing that. He did that during the first time I was going to see The Smiths back in 1986. Sad moment in life. Let's hope he doesn't cancel any of the shows this year.
